TRAILER: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (USA).

Posted: June 6, 2011 in Books, Movies (G), Trailers.

This trailer made a huge impression on the internet last week.  So it’s only natural that I would wait several days to post it.  For my next trick, I’m going to post nude pictures of myself and send them to a select few of my Twitter followers.  Do I know how to boost my readership or what?

What can I say?  The trailer is terrific.  As usual, heavyweight director David Fincher uses his powers of control for the powers of good, bringing us a trailer as hypnotic, addictive, unique, trail-blazing, energizing, and adjective-exhausting as the last time he put a movie out.  (The Social Network.  You may have heard of it.)  The score is once again by Trent Reznor, for these purposes enlisting Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for an industrial take on Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” The cast includes Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgard, and one of my personal favorites, Christopher Plummer, so this flick has pedigree for days.  Even though I’m pretty sure I know how the movie ends already, I’m still looking forward to seeing it.  I hope that most people feel the same.

I’ve read the book.  I haven’t seen the European adaptation.  A lot of people have already done one or the other.  So maybe taking on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo isn’t as sure a box-office prospect for Fincher as it might seem on the surface, but it’s probably still as close to a mainstream franchise picture as an artist this serious is ever gonna get.  Not that I know anything, but if I had to guess, this is a canny career move where Fincher is amassing as much popular cred as he possibly can before going off to make a movie that is dark and brilliant and will knock us all on our asses.  As if he hasn’t done that a few times already.  Looks like it’s gonna be a really good movie Christmas, is what I’m saying.
